The young town of Geretsried owes its growth into the largest town in the district mainly to the expellees who found a new home here on the site of a former munitions factory from 1945 onwards. The Geretsried museum therefore focuses on the topics of the Second World War, flight, expulsion and camp life. Mementos brought with them stand for the old homeland, and numerous objects represent the richly traditional culture of the people from the Sudetenland, Hungary, Transylvania and Silesia.
