How arduous rural life was around 1900 can be relived in Mellrichstadt's Heimatmuseum Mellrichstadt (Museum of local history Mellrichstadt). The building alone, an imposing half-timbered structure from the 16th century, is worth seeing. It houses objects on local crafts and rural living, mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries. Visitors can try out old working techniques under guidance and thus reconstruct the everyday life of earlier generations.
