Graphite is much more than the lead in a pencil. Visitors to the Graphiteum quickly realise this. On 350 m², graphite is presented here in an exciting way in all its diversity. It is not only about the 100-year history and the importance of graphite mining in Kropfmühl, but also about modern and future applications. In an imaginary underground world, the exhibition spans 2500 years of cultural and regional history, from Celtic graphite vessels to a "future tunnel". Four large exhibits - a compressor system, a travel lift, a power generator and a wall made of electric switch panels - make the historical process of graphite extraction directly tangible. Finally, in the Historic visitor mine, visitors can enter the mountain themselves to discover the origins of graphite through the media and in the historic gallery.
