Bayerisches Grenzmuseum Schirnding (Bavarian Border Museum Schirnding)
As early as 1527, there was a customs office in Schirnding on the important road connecting Bohemia and the Fichtelgebirge. The busy transit traffic came to an end in 1949 when a border fence with roadblocks and observation towers separated East and West. Today, thanks to the Schengen Agreement, the border crossing no longer exists. In its place, the museum has a photo documentation and various exhibits reminding visitors how police and customs officers used to work at the German-Czech border.
