Spinning with a hand spindle

Location: Kastenhof Landau - Museum für Steinzeit und Gegenwart (Museum of the Stone Age and Present Day)

On 24 October 2026, everything here will revolve around one of the world’s oldest materials. For thousands of years, people have been using sheep’s wool to make clothing and other fabrics. Even today, we still value the outstanding properties of this natural fibre and process it using large machines to produce, amongst other things, knitting and crochet wool. But how was this fluffy fibre turned into a durable yarn in the past?

We’ll be exploring this question and learning together how to use a hand spindle, taking us back to a time when clothes were still made by hand.

Saturday, 24 October 2026 | 2.00–4.00 pm

Course leader: Archaeologist Judith Graßmann

Cost: €15 including wool

Booking: 09951 941 151 or steinzeitmuseum@landau-isar.de
