Location: Archäologisches Museum der Stadt Kelheim (Archaeological Museum of the City of Kelheim)
In 15 BC, Roman invasion forces under the command of Augustus’s sons crossed the Alps and occupied the land as far as the Danube. From that point on, the river divided the land that it had previously united. By pushing the borders northwards and expanding the fortifications along the river’s course, the Romans laid the foundations for the economic boom in the occupied territories: military camps, villages, estates, bathhouses, craft workshops and roads were established throughout the district of Kelheim. District archaeologist Dr Joachim Zuber takes a closer look at the Roman archaeological sites and their history in his lecture.
