Schulmuseum Ahrain (School Museum Ahrain)
The centrepiece of the museum is the permanent exhibition on the history and significance of schools in Bavaria, which opened in 2012. This includes a historical classroom with original school utensils from the years 1850 to 1900, a classroom from 1900 to 1933, a section of a classroom from 1945 to 1965 and a section of a modern classroom from 1965 to the present day. At four work stations, schoolchildren experience school in the past.
The focus of the school museum is on the history of Bavaria, with an emphasis on the Lower Bavaria region. Despite its young existence, the school museum offers a wide range of activities for young and old. A special and unique presentation are the school leaving certificates, doctorate certificates, school reports and school documents of the former Federal President Prof. Dr Roman Herzog, the Bavarian Minister Presidents from 1945 onwards, the Lord Mayors of Munich and the District Councillors from 1972 onwards.
The special feature of the Ahrain Museum is its interactive concept, which is unique in Bavaria. The museum is an interactive activity centre for schoolchildren and adults. In the museum, visitors can take part in writing, painting, researching, discovering and experiencing school in the past at various work stations.
