When hundreds of historic wooden houses and farmhouses were demolished in the 1970s, the Museumsdorf Bayerischer Wald (Museum Village Bavarian Forest) was created to save at least some of these buildings from destruction. They were transferred here from all over the region, together with their furnishings, and rebuilt in the style of historical village views. Farms from the 17th to 19th centuries, chapels, mills and sawmills: More than 150 buildings, including farm gardens and old domestic animal breeds, make the museum village near Tittling a large and atmospheric experience.
