Event: Adventure Museum. 25 years of voyages of discovery in the box

What is a museum? Who works in a museum? What happens behind the scenes, and how can a museum function as a place of discovery, participation and learning?

These and other questions are addressed in the special exhibition "Adventure Museum – 25 Years of Discovery in the Box". Accompanied by museum experts from the Augsburger Puppenkiste, led by museum director Dr Zwengelmann and the museum rats, puppets explain the core tasks and professions in museums. The focus is on the museum makers of the Augsburger Puppentheatermuseum, because the box is celebrating its 25th birthday in 2026 and is taking the anniversary as an opportunity to look back on the adventurous journey of recent years in a special way. The exhibition tells museum stories from 25 years with exciting objects, anecdotes and interviews and presents the work and the team behind the scenes.

At interactive stations, visitors can try their hand at being museum researchers or contribute their wishes and ideas to the museum concept.

The supporting programme offers an in-depth look behind the scenes – various special tours and a "museum workshop" invite visitors to discover and participate. In addition, there will be further activities and surprises in the anniversary year for the public to look forward to.

The 25th anniversary of the Augsburg Puppet Theatre Museum "die Kiste" is under the patronage of the Bavarian Prime Minister Dr. Markus Söder, MdL.
