The History of a Munich Villa
27.10.2024 - 31.12.2030 ,
Monacensia im Hildebrandhaus (Monacensia at the Hildebrandhaus)
The Hildebrandhaus, now home to the Monacensia, is open to anyone wishing to discover and experience literary Munich. The sculptor Adolf von Hildebrand had the villa built during the Prinzregent era as a prestigious studio and residence in which art and life formed an ideal unity. Over the years, the Hildebrandhaus became a place where many people’s life stories took a tragic and cruel turn: the Nazi era marks a chapter that is
characterised by the deprivation of rights and extermination. Persecuted individuals, profiteers and representatives of the Nazi regime lived together in close quarters within the villa and its immediate neighbourhood. Processes of repression and forgetting left many gaps and blind spots that extend well into the post-war period. The exhibition therefore also sets out to uncover stories and biographies that have not yet been told.
