The Ismaning Castle Museum invites you on an unusual journey through time. When we look back at history, we usually have vivid images in our minds, but rarely specific smells in our noses. Yet olfactory landscapes are also subject to constant change. At scent stations, visitors discover what certain places used to smell like, and how strongly the area was once characterised by agricultural aromas – from the scent of fresh fields to burnt cabbage stalks or peat sods. Everyday smells too, such as those of food, bakeries, slaughterhouses and craft workshops, can be experienced. They will also encounter the delicate perfumes used by the castle’s inhabitants.
The exhibition is part of the ‘Mit allen Sinnen’ (With All the Senses) project organised by the ‘Landpartie. Museen rund um München’ association.
Exhibition opening: Sunday 17 May, 11.00 am
Duration of the exhibition: 17 May to 18 October 2026
