For almost 770 years, Wittelsbach Castle has dominated the townscape of Friedberg. Originally built in the Middle Ages as a border fortress for the Wittelsbach territory, it has had an eventful history over the centuries. Destruction, reconstruction and alterations transformed the appearance of the historic building from its original form as a castle into a palace featuring Renaissance elements. Today, the Wittelsbach Castle in Friedberg presents itself as a historic building with a modern twist.
