Event: Of fairy forests and pagan stones

Sunday, 09 August 2026, 10:00 - 14:00

A walk for children and families in the lower Altmühl Valley

Location: Archäologisches Museum der Stadt Kelheim (Archaeological Museum of the City of Kelheim)

There’s plenty of interesting things to discover on the family walk from Keltentor to Heidenstein. Who’s ever watched beavers having breakfast before? You don’t just see this by the backwater. In the forest, you can also discover the remains of a lost city, and along the way we pass the ‘fairies’ pillows’ – the mosses – or the ‘Celtic trolls’ bedcovers’ – the large-leaved ferns. Then we come across a mysterious spot where people celebrated with their gods in ancient times. And, of course, we’ll have a picnic here, just as they did in Celtic times over 2,000 years ago. Let yourself be surprised!

Note: The walk ends at the Heidenstein car park. Please ensure you wear sturdy footwear and bring a seat cushion and a snack for the picnic!

Register by the Thursday before the event on 09441 10492 or at museum@kelheim.de
