The poet Maximilian Schmidt (1832-1919) from Eschlkam was so successful with his stories about the region that Prince Regent Luitpold bestowed upon him the epithet "called Waldschmidt" in 1898 for his services to the Bavarian Forest. But the Bavarian Tourist Association and the Oktoberfest costume procession in Munich also go back to the initiative of the popular folk writer. The exhibition features numerous objects from his estate as well as documentation on the life and work of the author, who was also held in high esteem by King Ludwig II.
