Textilmuseum - Sandtnerstiftung im Jesuitenkolleg (Textile Museum - Sandtner Foundation in the Jesuit College)
Fashion. Art. Craft. Splendid gowns, dresses for everyday life and festivities, daring little dresses from the 1920s and gaudy outfits from the 1970s are lined up in a long row. As if on a journey through time, the path leads from the middle of the 18th century to the present, through presentations that are reminiscent of lavishly decorated films or fairy tales. Besides dresses, fashionable accessories are on display, such as a large number of precious fans from courtly times. But also rooms with elaborate embroidery and lace: Almost inextricable ornaments in white and gold embroidery cover fabrics in the most intricate shapes, and the fine webs of lace captivate the viewer. In view of such craftsmanship and elegance, it is not surprising that for centuries lace was held in the same esteem as jewellery. Finally, precious tapestries offer insights into biblical and mythical worlds. But so that the visitor is not left to just marvel, the mostly complicated textile techniques are clearly explained and one can even try one's hand at it oneself.
