Templerhaus (Templar House)
You will look in vain for evidence of Knights Templar here, even though the order and the house originate from the same era. The so-called Templerhaus (Templar House) is one of the oldest and best-preserved half-timbered houses in Germany: the half-timbered upper storey was built in 1291, the tower-like substructure is said to be up to 100 years older. Today it serves as a museum for modern building research. Visitors gain an authentic insight into late-medieval building techniques and living culture. The fragmentary room decorations of the 16th century are also remarkable.
The careful restoration of the Templerhaus (Templar House), which preserves the testimonial value of this high-ranking architectural monument, was awarded a medal of honour by the "Europa nostra" association as an exemplary monument conservation achievement.
