For centuries, a treasure in the Cistercian monastery of Himmelkron was literally "trampled underfoot": it was only during renovation work that high quality paintings were discovered on the underside of floor panels. The depictions of Christ, apostles and the foolish virgins are dated to around 1490 and can be seen today in the Stiftskirchenmuseum (Collegiate Church Museum). In the former nuns' hall and in the "St. John's parlour", there is also an Olivet group, textiles and liturgical utensils from the 16th-18th centuries on display.
