No longer a gatekeeper, but hundreds of exhibits can now be found in the former gatehouse of Stadtsteinach. In the half-timbered building from the 17th century, the Stadtsteinacher Heimatmuseum (Museum of local history in Stadtsteinach) bears witness to the development of the former district town. In 13 rooms, visitors can see machines, tools used by craftsmen and in agriculture and forestry, evidence of popular piety, the history of the town and church, the history of the school and exhibits from a natural history collection.
