Stadtmuseum Schongau (Schongau City Museum)
The Stadtmuseum Schongau (Schongau City Museum) itself has an adventurous history: founded in 1891, it has been relocated, closed and reopened several times and was even looted at the end of the Second World War. The remaining exhibits and numerous new acquisitions have now finally found their home in the former hospital church of St Erasmus. Regional artefacts from two millennia, the history of the town with a focus on guilds, social and legal history as well as sacred art (the "Häringer Altar", a rococo house altar from the workshop of Ignaz Günther, is particularly noteworthy) and popular piety are the themes.
