Stadtmuseum Mainburg (Mainburg City Museum)
Hare deer and dog bear - what sounds like mythical creatures can actually be seen in the Stadtmuseum Mainburg (Mainburg City Museum). At least as fossil remains, because both have long been extinct. The excavations at Sandelzhausen with 10,000 finds from the subtropical climate of the Tertiary period about 16 million years ago are, however, only one focus of the museum. Hop cultivation and processing - you couldn't do without them, as the Hallertau is the largest continuous hop-growing area in the world! - are just as much a theme here as the history, customs and way of life of the people of Hallertau and Mainburg. A separate room is dedicated to the painter Johann Georg Scharf (1788-1860), who came from Mainburg. Having emigrated to London, he became famous as an illustrator of Charles Darwin's scientific works and also captured London's transformation into a modern cosmopolitan city in his paintings and drawings.
