Herzogenaurach is world-famous above all for its sports shoes. The city museum shows how these were produced around 1900. The economic development of the city up to the structural change after the Second World War is also conveyed. The tour of the town's history sheds light on everyday life in the past. Realities of the guilds and testimonies of popular belief are part of the exhibition, as are arts and crafts, graphic sheets, rare printed matter and objects of bourgeois domestic culture. The museum building is also a special feature. The building technique and history are so interesting that they are part of the tour. It is a half-timbered building from 1508 - an architectural monument of supra-regional importance.
