Stadtmuseum Erlangen (Erlangen City Museum)
A hosiery weaver's chair from 1716 reminds us that Erlangen owed many important trades to the Huguenots in the 17th and 18th centuries, not only the hosiery weaver but also the glove maker, the white tanner and the carpet weaver. The baroque city of Erlangen with its Huguenot crafts and manufactories, its residence and university is therefore also the subject of a large section of the Stadtmuseum (Erlangen City Museum). The permanent exhibition, however, covers far more. Archaeological finds, machines from the time of industrialisation, household goods, student items, toys and much more document the city's history from the first traces of settlement in the Erlangen area to the modern university and Siemens city in the 20th century.
