Amberg's Stadtmuseum (Amberg City Museum) is as diverse as the city's 1000-year history. The tour begins with an internationally known son of the city, the portrait painter, book illustrator and poster designer M. M. Prechtl (1926-2003), with over a hundred original drawings, paintings and posters. After an excursion into the electoral period (1329-1803) and a pictorial overview of the changes in the cityscape from the 16th to the 20th century, completely furnished original Amberg shops allow visitors to enter the "good old days". But when they see a dentist's office from 1880, they are sure to turn their backs on it and instead enjoy the history of Amberg beer. 200 years of fashion, a hairdresser's salon and the workshops of other "beautifying" crafts (shoemaker, goldsmith) lead on to the industrial section in the form of the Royal Bavarian Rifle Factory Amberg and the enamelware factory Gebr. Baumann. A special collection is also dedicated to Amberg faience and earthenware.
