Stadt- und Hochstiftmuseum (City and high foundation museum)
Founded in 1888, the museum is now located in the "Unteres Stiftshaus" (15th-18th century) and the neighbouring "Angererhaus" (16th century). In over 30 rooms, it presents interesting facts about the history of the town and region of Dillingen. The extensive collection of prehistoric and early historic finds from the Neolithic Age to the High Middle Ages is remarkable, including important objects from the Hallstatt and Celtic periods, from the area of provincial Roman history and from the large Alamannic row grave field of Schretzheim. The history of handicrafts is represented by the historic Weigand forge, printing and printing works, equipment from old trades and objects relating to the history of the guild system. The "Angererhaus" is mainly dedicated to the presentation of important Dillingen personalities, such as the submarine inventor Wilhelm Bauer, and the products of Dillingen printers. The ground floor also houses the workshop of the master coppersmith Angerer.
