Staatliche Antikensammlungen (State collections of antiquities)

Special features:
Museum café.

Greeks, Etruscans and Romans can be experienced vividly in the antique collections on Königsplatz. They have found their home on the south side of the square, in the exhibition building designed by Georg Friedrich Ziebland (inherited 1838-1848). Works of art and objects of everyday use from antiquity made of a wide variety of materials such as ceramics, metal and stone allow visitors to immerse themselves in the world of antiquity. A whole five halls are filled with masterpieces of Greek vase art from 1400 to 300 BC, including numerous world-famous pieces such as the drinking bowl with the ship of Dionysus by Exekias, the amphora with Dionysus and entourage or the stamnos with warrior's farewell from around 430 BC. And Etruscan gold jewellery from 680 to 530 BC, clay statuettes from all epochs, bronze statuettes and utensils as well as early evidence of glass art also amaze visitors.
