The world-famous collection of early Meissen porcelain donated by the industrialist Dr Ernst Schneider is comparable in scope and importance only to the holdings of the porcelain collection in the Dresden Zwinger. Presented in the Lustheim pleasure and hunting palace (Schleißheim Palace), which was built between 1684 and 1688 under Elector Max Emanuel according to Henrico Zuccalli's designs, the more than 2000 exquisite porcelains form a Baroque ensemble of special charm. The collection offers an insight into the diversity of the Meissen manufactory's products and its almost inexhaustible wealth of invention from its foundation in 1710 to the time of the Seven Years' War (1756-1763). The exhibition ranges from tableware and figurines of the Böttger period to the chinoiseries of the porcelain painter Johann Gregorius Höroldt and "Indian" decorations to the vividly modelled animal figures of the sculptor Johann Joachim Kändler. A special highlight are the numerous dishes from the table serivce of Count Sulkowski and the legendary swan service of Count Brühl, which give an idea of the splendour of baroque festive tables.
