23 steps lead into Kempten's underworld. At the end of the stairs, under St. Mang Square, is the medieval Erasmus Chapel. The plastered walls, the remains of wall paintings, the vaulting, the windows and wall niches, supported by projections and audio images, tell of Kempten's history: from the charnel house to the chapel, from the chapel to the drinking room, from the wine cellar to the trench, from the ruin to the showroom.
