Sandauer Heimatstube (Sandau local history museum)
The Sandauer Heimatstube, founded in 1965, has been commemorating the town of Sandau (Dolní Žandov) near Marienbad since 1987 in what is now the Czech Republic. In the newly designed community centre in Arzberg, the exhibits on display keep memories alive and can be viewed in bright and inviting rooms. These include Egerland furniture, Egerland traditional costumes, agricultural implements, handicrafts and everyday objects, certificates, documents relating to the history of the association, flags, photographs, textiles and literature, photographs of distinguished men from Sandau, Sandau tins for small items, made of lacquered papier-mâché in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the guitar of the most famous folk poet and musician of the Ore Mountains, Anton Günther (1876-1937), as well as woodcuts and linocuts by the Sandau painter Rudolf Zuber (1909-1955), which mainly deal with the folk culture of the Egerland region. The jewel of the collection is an almost completely furnished Egerland parlour with original, typically colourful and richly decorated furniture and an original Egerland traditional costume couple.
The Sandau Local History Museum website is also available in Czech.
