Prunkräume in der Residenz (Staterooms in the Residence)
Founded around 750, the Benedictine monastery was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. Prince-Abbot Roman Giel von Gielsberg had the church and residence rebuilt from 1652 onwards as Germany's first monumental monastery complex. The furnishing of the prince-abbot's living quarters was carried out between 1732 and 1742 in the late Régencestyle, the throne room alone already leading into the Rococo. The uniqueness of the rooms lies on the one hand in the combination of sacred and profane elements, and on the other hand in the strong, warm colours, which give the impression of homeliness, comfort and cheerfulness.
