Armeemuseum "Friedrich der Große" auf der Plassenburg (Army Museum "Frederick the Great" at Plassenburg Castle)
The world's largest publicly accessible collection of Old Prussian militaria from the 18th century, with around 1000 objects, can be viewed in the north wing of Plassenburg Castle (Plassenburg Castle). The Army Museum documents the external and internal appearance of the army that made history on the battlefields of Europe, from its founding by the Soldier King Frederick William I (1712-1740) to its disbandment in 1806. With a focus on the time of Frederick the Great (1740-1786), the museum presents equipment, historical context, but also the social conditions in the old Prussian army. Highlights of the museum are blank weapons and flags as well as contemporary oil paintings. Most of the exhibits are on loan from private collections, especially the Bernd Windsheimer Collection.
