Oberfränkisches Textilmuseum (Upper Franconian Textile Museum)
Special features:- Museum café.
- Shop.
People in Helmbrechts are familiar with textiles, as linen and wool weaving was already practised here in the Middle Ages. In the 19th century, the town was even considered the "wardrobe of the world". Today, visitors can learn about the development of weaving and the textile industry in Upper Franconia. Textile raw materials and sample books can be viewed. A special feature is the collection of shawls exported from Helmbrechts in the 19th century, e.g. saris for India and ponchos for South America. An additional highlight is "The longest hand-woven shawl". With the then 3000 m long scarf, the museum achieved an entry in the "Guinness Book of Records" in 2000. Visitors continue to weave this object to this day.
