Museum Polling
1000 years of Augustinian canons' monastery, 1000 years of cultural history: the Museum Polling has a lot to offer. On 400 m² it presents a remarkable collection from the fields of religious art, popular piety, painting, history and everyday culture. And - in keeping with the tradition of the monastery's former naturalia chamber - minerals and fossils as well as a large tuff exhibition. Or even curiosities, such as a whale shoulder blade painted with a harbour scene in 1706. "Polling had atmosphere, remember ...", Thomas Mann is said to have said to his brother in 1947. This atmosphere was also appreciated by numerous artists of the 19th century - among them a good 80 American artists, which is why Polling was also called the "American Village". And so, in addition to a section on the Manns, the museum also has a gallery of well-known painters who worked here, including Franz v. Defregger and Frank Duveneck.
