Museum im Augustiner-Chorherrenstift Herrenchiemsee (Museum in the Augustinian Canons' Monastery on Herrenchiemsee Island)
Visitors can experience 1200 years of Bavarian history at a historical location in the former Augustinian canon's monastery. The section on the history of this oldest monastery in Bavaria, whose origins go back to the 7th century, leads "From the monastery to the royal palace of Herrenchiemsee", and thus also directly to the fully furnished "private rooms of King Ludwig II", who acquired the Herreninsel in 1873. In the historic rooms of the Constitutional Convention of 1948, the Constitutional Museum illustrates the creation of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany. In the Fürstenstock (prince's floor), the Kaisersaal (emperor's hall) and the Gartenzimmer (garden room) can be visited with their completely preserved paintings and furnishings, which are among the highest-quality baroque secular rooms in Germany. In the Prälatenstock (prelate's floor), there is a picture gallery with around 100 works by the well-known Munich Secession and Art Nouveau painter Julius Exter (1863-1939).In the former monastery cells of the Konventstock, the Bavarian Palace Department, in cooperation with the Bavarian State Painting Collections, shows the permanent exhibition "Painters on Lake Chiemsee" with numerous works by the most famous Chiemsee painters.
