The Museum für Franken boasts the world's largest collection of Riemenschneider sculptures: a total of 80 works by the most important sculptor of the German late Gothic period can be found here. But the museum at Festung Marienberg (Marienberg Fortress) also has a wealth of other impressive paintings, sculptures and craft objects on display. The museum's masterpieces include the bronze cult chariot from Acholshausen, paintings by Lucas Cranach and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, the Schönborn funerary monuments, the collection of baroque bozzetti (preliminary studies for sculptures) as well as exquisite furniture and faience.
