Visitors to the Museum der Deutschen Spielzeugindustrie (Deutsches Museum (German Museum)) learn that "eye setter" was a thoroughly respectable profession. The doll hairdresser and the doll shoemaker are also represented, because this is about "toys for a living". How are heads made from papier-mâché? How does a wood turner work, how does a cardboard embosser? The museum shows the technical development of the local toy industry since the 17th century, but also its social context. For young visitors, the "Father Christmas Workshop" presents the museum's contents in an understandable and exciting way.Another special feature is the collection of traditional costume dolls. The carefully modelled dolls, which were made in Neustadt especially for this collection from 1930 onwards, were sent to about 100 regions in Europe, Asia and America to be dressed in their original costumes on site.
