Every child in Munich knows the legend of the monkey tower in the Altes Hof. What is much less well known is that the medieval history of this place - after all, the first residence of the Wittelsbach dynasty in Munich - can be explored here: Hidden below the Museums & Palaces in Bavaria Infopoint is one of the oldest rooms in the city with a piece of castle wall from around 1200. In the late Gothic vaulted hall, visitors learn about the development of medieval Munich in an interactive exhibition, a multimedia show and short films. They learn, among other things, how Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian in the 14th century helped the Old Court and thus also the city to a period of splendour or how the Munich city coat of arms developed from the monk to the "Münchner Kindl".
