The Monacensia at the Hildebrandhaus is a literary archive, library and museum all in one. In keeping with the tradition of the artists’ villa, it is also a meeting place, a creative space, a source of inspiration and a stage. As the literary memory of the city of Munich, the Monacensia builds bridges from the past to the present. Carefully curated exhibitions spark curiosity about Munich’s literary life and offer a direct encounter with literature, with authors and their life stories and works. Their narrative nature allows for cross-references and connections to biography and contemporary history, to artistic creation in the past and to its reception today.

The house and garden are open to anyone wishing to discover, explore and experience literary Munich.
