Mercateum (Merchand Museum)
A journey into the interior of the earth is not possible here either. But you can go inside the world's largest historical globe. The 10 m high spherical structure of the Mercateum features Diego Ribero's world map from 1529 on its cover and is a tribute to the world trade that started in Augsburg in the 16th century and took merchants (merchant, Latin: mercator) to the other side of the world. The beginning and heyday of trade are documented on five levels, from Roman times to the entry of the Swabian long-distance trading companies into the Indian trade in the early 16th century to the beginning of global trade. Originals and casts of historical trade goods are also exhibited in a replica cargo hold.
