Klostermuseum Abtei Ottobeuren (Monastery Museum Ottobeuren Abbey)
Being together with 16 emperors in one room - the Emperor's Hall of the Benedictine Abbey makes it possible. Statues of the Habsburg rulers adorn the most magnificent representation room of the Baroque Benedictine Abbey, built between 1711 and 1766. Although a large part of the monastery's furnishings were lost during secularisation, the remaining art objects, the furnishings and not least the rooms themselves convey an impression of the former importance of the old imperial monastery, whose roots go back to the 8th century.
The tour through the audience and social rooms also leads to the abbey's collection of nativity scenes with over 400 figures from the 18th and early 19th centuries. The Baroque library, which contains 15,000 volumes from the period 1500 to 1800, is remarkable. Other highlights of the museum are the abbey chapel and the theatre hall, which, like the entire abbey, were decorated by renowned stucco artists and ceiling painters.
