The Henneberg Museum is located in the former Kommende, the seat of the Teutonic Order in Münnerstadt from 1240 to 1805. Characterised above all by the construction work of the 17th and 18th centuries, the castle-like complex around a picturesque inner courtyard alone is worth a visit. The modern permanent exhibition, covering around 1100 square metres, invites you on a journey through the complex history and culture of Münnerstadt and the Rhön. You will encounter the Counts of Henneberg, the founders of the town in the 13th century, the prince-bishops of Würzburg as the later rulers of the town, the citizens and the council, the Augustinians, the Teutonic Knights and the town's craftsmen. A wide variety of objects, from clay jugs to sacred sculptures, from medieval town seals to looms, bring life in earlier times to life. This is complemented by special exhibitions on a wide variety of topics, from natural history to modern art, but mostly with a connection to Münnerstadt.
