Heimatmuseum Miesbach (Museum of local history Miesbach)
In 1907, the rich local history and folklore collections were founded by the Historical Society. Since 1973, the museum, which is now supported by the town, has been housed in two large rooms in the fire station.
The collections come from the castles of Wallenburg and Wattersdorf, from the town of Miesbach and its rural surroundings. They document the rich cultural history of this area from the 17th to the 20th century. One focus of the collection is painted furniture from the Miesbach area, including a complete 17th century farmhouse parlour from Reisach. In addition, there are traditional costumes, glass and ceramics, as well as evidence of popular piety and ecclesiastical sculptures. Extensive collections of guild documents, tools and craft products as well as agricultural implements bear witness to old working methods. There is also a section devoted to coal mining, which was of great economic importance to Miesbach between 1849 and 1911. The museum also preserves prehistoric and protohistoric finds that prove the settlement of the area since the Bronze Age, as well as evidence of the town's history, the military and shooting.
