It is quite extraordinary that a Pope should make a gift to a museum of local history. This is what happened in Marktl, where the museum can proudly present three gifts from Benedict XVI: a valuable chalice, a gold-plated paten and a pileolus from the Pope's private collection.In 11 rooms of the former brewery, the museum also displays a wide-ranging collection. This includes Celtic finds from the Late Latène period, local history, a peasant's dormitory and a bourgeois bedroom, evidence of popular piety, ceramic vessels, clocks and lamps as well as tools from craftsmen and farmers.
