As a border town, Mähring has always been shaped by trade and border traffic between Germany and the Czech Republic. In the former school and town hall, the Gelebtes Museum (Living museum) shows the diverse history and life in the region. The main themes are the expulsion of the German population from the regions around Plan and Weseritz in West Bohemia and the fate of the village of Lohhäuser, representative of the many "disappeared villages" along the border.
