In the middle of the 19th century, Lake Chiemsee, with its islands and extremely attractive mountain scenery, became a painter's paradise. Committed to this artistic heritage, the Galerie im Alten Rathaus was founded in Prien am Chiemsee in 1985 and became one of the most important cultural institutions in Chiemgau. Once a year, internationally renowned artists such as Keith Haring, Salvador Dali, Ernst, Miro, Andy Warhol, Baselitz, Robert Mapplethorpe, reconstructed technical works by Leonardo DaVinci or James Rizzi are represented in the Galerie im Alten Rathaus. Visitors are greeted from the outside by an artistically designed façade and newly designed, light-flooded rooms offer ideal presentation opportunities for a wide variety of themes.
