For centuries, wayside shrines have shaped the landscape of Franconia and are inseparably linked to it as landmarks. In a journey through time spanning almost 600 years, the wayside shrine centre takes visitors from the first medieval stone crosses to the baroque flood of wayside shrines and the romanticisation to the modern revival of this tradition. They learn about the pious attitude of the founders as well as about the technical and artistic development of the small monuments and hear adventurous legends about individual wayside shrines. An extensive database and an information centre on special wayside shrine tours round off the offer.
