Fränkische Galerie auf der Festung Rosenberg (Franconian Gallery Kronach)

The Franconian Gallery at the Rosenberg Fortress brings together important paintings and sculptures from the 13th century to the Dürer period in 25 exhibition rooms. The works come from all parts of Franconia. The museum thus gives an idea of the environment into which Lucas Cranach the Elder, born in Kronach and named after the town, grew. Cranach himself is represented with his first Protestant doctrinal painting, and the rest of his oeuvre is also presented through outstanding examples. In addition, important works by Dürer's pupil Hans von Kulmbach or from the Bamberg workshop of Wolfgang Katzheimer the Elder are shown. Among the sculptures, a large room with works by Tilman Riemenschneider and his workshop deserves special attention alongside numerous Nuremberg and Bamberg sculptures. The rich selection of works made of alabaster is also worthy of mention. In addition to the Franconian Gallery, Rosenberg Fortress also houses the exhibition ‘Fortresses - Franconia's Bulwarks’.
