Fossilien- und Steindruck-Museum (Fossil and lithographic museum)
The museum in Gunzenhausen takes account of the unique fossil finds from the region with a large collection of plants and animals that lived here about 150 million years ago. The small predatory dinosaur (Compsognathus), remains of which were found in the Plattenkalken, is juxtaposed with the replica skeleton of a seven-metre-long plateosaurus. The exhibition is complemented by numerous finds from all over the world.
Another section shows the importance of the Solnhofen plates for lithography, which Alois Senefelder developed in 1798.
