In the 15th century, the wealthy Wunsiedl merchant and tinsmith Sigmund Wann donated a hospital and church, which served as accommodation for twelve honourable craftsmen who had fallen on hard times through no fault of their own. Today, the medieval building houses one of the largest regional museums in Bavaria. The history of the Fichtelgebirge, its inhabitants and their culture is told in lively displays over an area of more than 2900 square metres. The brethren's parlour, the black kitchen and the dormitory are reminiscent of the hospital's former use. In keeping with the tradition of the building, blacksmiths, potters and pewterers still present their crafts in the active workshops and are happy to let you look over their shoulders.
