document Reichstag im Alten Rathaus (document Reichstag in the Old City Hall)
Regensburg is rich in superlatives and can boast one of the most historic buildings in Germany: the Altes Rathaus (Old city hall). The "Perpetual Diet" met here from 1663 to 1806, making the city the centre of German and European politics for almost 150 years. The atmosphere of these meetings of the highest representatives of the empire can still be felt in the Imperial Hall and the conference rooms, which have largely been preserved in their original state. The town hall was, of course, also the seat of the city council and administration and - as the prison and "Fragstatt" in the basement testify - the court system.
