From 6 to 16 February 1936, Garmisch-Partenkirchen hosted the IV. Winter Olympics took place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The National Socialist dictatorship capitalised on the fascination that winter sports held even back then to achieve its goals. Almost perfect organisation, logistics and competition design, new buildings and elaborate competition venues were intended to illustrate the image of a peaceful Germany. However, the suppression of political opponents, the harassment and humiliation of German Jews continued, as did the militarisation of German society behind the sporting backdrop.

The exhibition in the Olympic ski stadium shows "the other side of the coin".
